HiFiGo Beginner's Guide 2026: Your First In-Ear Monitors, Dongle and Tips for Under $65

HiFiGo Beginner's Guide 2026: Your First In-Ear Monitors, Dongle and Tips for Under $65

You've probably been living with the earbuds that came in the box. They work. Then a friend lends you a pair of proper in-ear monitors on a train ride, and suddenly the bass line has edges, the singer is standing in front of the band, and the rattle of the carriage just fades away.

That's usually the moment people end up on HiFiGo (hifigo.com), and it's also the moment they get lost: more than 900 listings, dongles, plugs called 2-pin and 4.4mm, ear tips in a dozen shapes. This guide is the calm version. We went through HiFiGo's catalog and policies on October 20, 2026, and picked a simple path for a complete beginner, with real USD prices and specs as each maker lists them.

Who This Guide Is For

  • You've never owned in-ear monitors (IEMs) and want to try without spending much.
  • Your phone has no headphone jack and you're not sure what to buy.
  • You want one setup that works for commuting, calls and evening music.

Step 1: Look at Your Phone Before You Shop

Everything starts with one question: what will you plug into? If your phone or laptop only has a USB-C port, you need either earphones that end in USB-C or a small USB-C dongle (a tiny DAC and amp in a cable) for a 3.5mm pair. If you still have a 3.5mm headphone jack, any 3.5mm IEM plugs in directly. That single check saves more beginner returns than any spec sheet.

Step 2: Pick Your First Pair

Path A: Plug-and-play USB-C

Moondrop Chu II DSP, $27.99. This is the easy door in. The cable ends in USB-C with the processing built in, so you plug it into your phone and press play. Moondrop lists a 10mm dynamic driver with an aluminum-magnesium alloy composite diaphragm, a CNC-machined brass nozzle with replaceable filters, an in-line microphone for calls, 18Ω and 119dB/Vrms. With the Moondrop Link 2.0 app you can switch between three built-in tuning profiles or explore more online. The cable detaches at standard 0.78mm 2-pin connectors, so a snagged cable never means new earphones.

Buy this if your phone is USB-C only and you want the fewest pieces possible.

Path B: Classic 3.5mm

Moondrop Chu II, $22.99. The same 10mm driver family and 18Ω, 119dB/Vrms listing, but with a 3.5mm single-ended cable and no mic. It plugs straight into a laptop, a console controller or an older phone, and pairs with any dongle later. Moondrop notes the nozzle is replaceable and the cable is interchangeable.

Buy this if you have a 3.5mm jack somewhere in your life, or you'd like to choose your own dongle.

Step 3: Add a Dongle Only If You Need One

Moondrop Echo-A, $21.99. The simplest option. A USB-C plug on one end, a 3.5mm jack on the other, and plug-and-play support for computers, Android and iOS devices. Moondrop lists 32-bit/384kHz decoding, about 100dB SNR and support for OMTP-standard microphones.

TANCHJIM Stargate II, $37.99. The tinkerer's pick. It weighs 4.3 grams, uses a CS43131 DAC chip, and supports DSP and an 8-band PEQ through the Tanchjim app, plus in-line mics. Tanchjim lists up to 75mW at 32Ω, PCM up to 32-bit/384kHz and native DSD256.

Step 4: Get the Fit Right

Here's the beginner secret: the ear tip changes what you hear more than almost anything else. Too small and the bass leaks away; too big and they ache after twenty minutes. The FiiO HS19 pack ($12.99) holds 12 pairs to experiment with: balanced, vocal and bass silicone tips in S, M and L, two pairs of memory foam tips and one bi-flange pair.

Try the medium first. A good seal feels snug, not pushed, and the music suddenly gets fuller. Swap one size up or down if it doesn't. Keep the volume low when you first switch, since a sealed earphone sounds louder than open earbuds.

Step 5: Give Them a Home

IEM cables tangle and nozzles collect pocket lint. A small case solves both. Moondrop's U-Bag earphone storage case ($21.99) is a small tan pouch on a shoulder strap, so your earphones and dongle travel together instead of loose in a pocket.

Before You Order

  • Delivery: orders ship from HiFiGo's warehouse in China within 1–3 business days. US Priority is marked tax and duty paid, 1–2 weeks (about 10 days on average). PO Box addresses aren't accepted.
  • Problems on arrival: a 7-day DOA policy covers damaged, wrong or unusable items.
  • Change of mind: return requests 7 to 30 days after delivery carry a 30% restocking fee, and ear tips and cables are excluded for hygiene reasons. That's why a multi-size tip pack is the smart first buy.
  • Warranty: one year for IEMs and dongles; cases and ear tips aren't covered.

The Bottom Line

Your first IEM setup doesn't need to be complicated. Check your port, pick the Chu II DSP for USB-C or the Chu II plus a dongle for 3.5mm, spend a few dollars on tips, and give it all a case. You'll have a setup for well under $65 that you can keep building on. Check the HiFiGo deals page before you pay.
